December 25, 1919

Thursday December 25th 1919 Christmas at Harriets Another dark cloudy dismal day & I am allowed the blest priveleg of spending another Christmas day with my Children Harriet & Willard Mother Dave Roy & Paul & we are sure having a merry Christmas & recd letters & cards from Florilla Longwell Sylvia Jap & Lois  card from Woodberries Hattie Darbyshire our Harriet is most sick & Willard & mother cookd the turkey & we had a most Splendid dinner which we all enjoyd & Harriet ate some & seems better & we all got many presents  I gave Each a $5 bill to Mother Harriet Willard Dave Roy & Paul one $  I got from Leslie an Electric warm pad & Hdkf from baby Lavanda  from Jap & Sylvia a Book & Hdkfs from  Dave a fir hat? & Hdkfs from Harriet & Willard  a very nice pr of grey dress Kid gloves  after dinner we visited & ate some apples in the eve & none wanted Supper  Mother & I went to bed after 9 Willard Dave & Roy visited til 10-30 or more

April 20, 1919

Sun 20   An extra fine warm day   I only made fire in the grate   we drest & Dave went with us to church & I subscribed $25,00 for painting church inside   we had extra good dinner   Ethel Ayers called to see Roy   he hadn’t come yet   we all went to church in the eve   a fine Eve & warm   Leslie came this eve   he Lavanda & baby came in by the Kitchen door & we were surely very glad to welcome him home   they all took Supper here & went with us to church & I enjoyed hearing Leslie sing Bass   they went to Gardners from Church but Leslie came & staid with us & Dave til bed time

March 25, 1919

Tuesday March 25 1919   Long Beach Delmar   A moderate partly Cloudy day   we 3 arose feeling well   took breakfst at Delmar   pd 25c for 2   I read til mail time 9 AM   Harriet recd telegram from Willard   he is home & gaining   all wil soon be well   I took a walk to pier Chamber Commerce & Library  got the Advance & 2 hawkeyes   we took dinner at ywc   I pd 1,04 for 3   I gave mother 1,00   her & Harriet went Shopping   PM we took a walk on the pike & bot a Small pair of moccasions for little Lavanda Carr  pd 1,00   we went to Virginia Hotel just to look around & found both grounds & Hotel spacious & very fine   we took supper Advent   I pd 86c for 3   we all sat in the parlor awhile

October 14, 1918

Mon 14   An extra fine da   frost this morn   I arose a little early & fed & milkd my cow for the last time & I never milkd a gentler cow   some after 10 am John Fleming & son Everet [came]   I rode in auto with them to my pasture   I put a good halter on my cow & sold her to John Fleming for $100, & he gave me a check which I had put to my acct   I got mail at noon   rec a letter from Leslie in DC   he is well & very busy  much influenza in the hospital in camps & City   Lavanda & baby are in Clermont   I took plants to Florilla Longwell & went down & maild 5 letters to Roy Maude Nora Sloan in SE & B Reece Jones Secy insurance Desmoines [1]   boy brot 2 boxes strawberries & Florilla Longwell pd for them   I took laundry to Carrie   I went [to] Mrs Crossets this eve & pd her 1,50 for boys taking cow up to 17th
