January 8, 1900

Monday Jan 8 A real nice warm day Mag Dave & I went to Keota to visit Sylvia froze hard in the morning & roads quite rough we got there at 11 AM found Sylvia feeling poorly but we soon had a good dinner & PM I attended Annual bank meeting of the farms Savings bank Elected 5 directors & had a good & pleasant meeting I got Sylvia a nice bright skillet 40c I got a pair Mocha gloves at Sanders $1,00 I called at the Advance office [Wellman Advance newspaper] & renewed my Subscription a year from next April 1,50 After Supper we went down town & I bought a Street lamp of Haney for 2,00 back to Japs & to bed


September 21, 1899

Thursday September 21st 1899 Thirty four years ago to day Mag & I went to Washington in my two horse wagon with a board for Spring seat & were married by Judge B F Brown Alice Leighton Wolf & Sister Amanda & E Bradford went along & to day our daughter Bell was married to Ralph B Hull only relatives were present a most delightful day & all went off well W A Schwimley performed the marriage Ceremony & Willard Deyoe prayed & we had a fine dinner & the young folks got Several fine & appropriate presents Mother & I gave one hundred dollars in gold which I drew from the bank this morning I have taken five more Shares of Stock in the Wellman Savings bank & now have ten Shares worth $140,00 a share Rach Hull & Wife went home Early most of our guests Stayed later & Holden & Laura spent the Evening Jap went home about 9 in the Eve & left Sylvia & baby here Martin Scranton girl & boy will Stay all night

November 20, 1898

Sunday Nov 20  A real nice pleasant day  wind South  we arose late at Sylva’s  Jap fed my horses & we attended Methodist Church  preaching by Rev Chew  Saw Several friends & acquaintances  at a good dinner at Sylvas  Called an hour or so on Jim Deyoe & wife & at 3-40 left for home  Came by Roys & got lard press &c & Roy tells me I will have to build more crib  must build another 16 ft length  Corn is turning out real well I will have nearly or quite 4 – 16 ft lengths of crib full mostly 9 ft wide & 11 high  we arrived home at dark  found Maude Nellie & Vic all right  we had some Apples & I wrote in this book

October 2, 1898

Sunday Oct 2 Cloudy & partly misty nearly cleared off in the Eve & Jap & Sylvia came & Joe England called & brought a Sack of flour for Mag to bak him some bread Roy & Frank Hicks called I got my wagon ready to go to Washington tomorrow we salted all Stock & they are doing well grass is very plenty Harve got Maj colt to work him tomorrow I fixed crout cutter

May 1, 1898

Sunday May 1st 1898  May day  Rain last night but warm & nice to day  a good grass & growing day but muddy  Mr. Green wife & 2 kids came visiting  also Cora & Roy  we had a pleasant visit  plums apples & cherries nearly in bloom & bid fair for a good crop  we have 23 little pigs & 10 little calves  Harve & I went down in the Creek in the Eve & cut 2 dead trees to make a bridge to my Wellman Barn  a burr oak & a walnut
