Friday October 25th 1901 A very Extra fine Indian Summer day Allie & Nora & Sylvia & all their kids took my team & Carriages & went to Bells & Bells came home with them & PM Mother & I got Otto Kloks [Klockenteger] horse & buggy & went out to Chas Mayers we found him a little better we thought & John Fleming & Tom McReynolds will set up with him to night I have taken charge of the watchers & will Send 2 of Ed Hamlin Post each night as long as us old veterans can Stand it W A Schwimley went to Ioa City
Sun Oct 20 An Ideal day Sunny Calm pleasant invigorating we all went to M E Church & heard Stryker just hoop & holler & Spread himself Amanda & Ez were here for dinner PM Sylvia & Jap went to Roys also Bell & Ralf Maude & Otto called in the Eve Vic & Nellie went to Church in the Eve

Sat Oct 19 A very Extra fine warm pleasant day an Ideal day & we killed the last of the 8 roosters I got of Roy Scrantons came from Roys & then went home we had Rev Adam Schwimley here for dinner he came from Ioa City with horse & buggy we spent most of the PM having pictures taken the artist Bruce Moomey came & took pictures of our house with all Standing on & near the porch & then we all went to the picture gallery & we had our family group of Eleven taken 6 girls 3 boys Mother & I & then our 5 Sons in law & Roy had their pictures taken in a group I got 5 lbs of Beef & some Sausage for tomorrow in the Eve we all Except Nora & Leslie & Vic went up to Amandas & Spent the Evening & Sylvia & Jap will Stay there all night

Friday Oct 18 A very extra pleasant fine day we all went to Bells visiting Roy & Cora came I waited for the mail & drove Willards Single horse down H. Blumenstine called & wanted to put up wire for my telephone but I told him I had a visit [visitor] on hand & we put it off till next Monday Bell had taken great pains with her dinner & it was real nice She is a good cook & a neat housekeeper I wish She more of a chance to do & a good house to keep Leslie Stayed at home & went to School & done the chores the 3 Scrantons are here yet with their team Jap & Sylvia stayed with Bell to night Most of us went to M E Church this Eve Scrantons went to Roys this Eve

October 17th 1901 A very warm pleasant day & we visited & wore our good clothes & in the Eve went over to Fred Klokentager to reception had a real pleasant time good lap Supper 25 present all told & we got home at 10-30 Dr Gates & wife called & took tea & went away on the Eve train I went with them to the train he has poor health was a member of 11th Ioa [Iowa] Co A in Civil war
Wed Oct 16 Clear Sunny & Cool Maudes wedding day We arose in good season & put in the day getting ready on the 10 oclock Express Nora & Allie came I & Harriet met them with Carriage & we had a glad & joyful meeting I got grapes cheese & cooked ham 5 lbs we had a lap supper & a good one Willard Deyoe Married Maude & Otto at 7 PM Eve [evening] Martin Scrantons 3 Children here I got Lindauers Stable also Hamiltons & we have 3 Stables well filled with horses Mother & I got to bed at 11 PM over 40 here Many nice presents Mother & I gave $100,00 in gold.
Tuesday Oct 15 A nice pleasant day & cool we are busy getting things ready for the wedding Cakes are baking & other good things being made Willard Deyoe came with horse & buggy this PM I got bananas grapes &c
